How we price our cars (and how we check them)

What we compare against

For every car on our lot, we pull similar cars listed for sale by dealers within 75 miles of Huntsville on Cars.com: same make, model and trim level, the same model year (or a year either way if there aren't enough), and similar miles. We leave out brand-new loaners under 500 miles and cars listed by dealers farther than 75 miles away. We need at least 5 similar cars, and the similar cars can't have meaningfully fewer miles than ours. If a car doesn't pass those rules, we don't make a claim on it.

What "typical asking price" means

It's the median: half of the similar cars are listed above it and half below. We use the median instead of the average so one overpriced or bargain listing can't skew it. These are asking prices, not final sale prices, and listings change every day, so we show the date we checked.

When we say "under market"

Only when our price is at least $300 under that typical asking price. Right now that's 10 of the 12 cars we could check. On the rest we just show you the price and the out-the-door number.

What isn't in our price

Nothing hidden. Every price is the car. Add the $899 doc fee, 3.5% Alabama sales tax and tag and title and you have the out-the-door number we show on every car. No dealer add-ons, no "market adjustment".
